January 20th, Malmberg organized the third National Congress for Biology teachers. The event took place in Burgers ' Zoo in Arnhem. It has been a very successful day: 450 biology teachers from secondary education have been inspired by different speakers.

Biologist Freek Vonk, the snake man, showed in a lively presentation how he collects poison from animals throughout the world, looking for medications. Afterwards, the participants took part in choice sessions on e.g. eating disorders, the necessity of insects as a meat replacement, new media in biology, making a successful profile project, parallels between a school classroom and a flock of sheep, how to liven up the biology lesson and the new exam program for biology that’s coming up. In addition, there were several active sessions in the Zoo.

Are you curious about the presentations? These can be found on www.biologencongres.nl/downloads (in Dutch).

The day ended with a lecture from Bas Haring and a summary by chairperson Andrea van Pol.

The written evaluation among the participants is still running, but we can already conclude that the participants were very satisfied and went home with a bag full of new ideas (and the new book of Freek Vonk). On to the 4th National Teachers Congress Biology in 2 years!
