Marja-Leena Tuomola, Senior Vice President, Business and digital operations development at Sanoma News, has been appointed as the Chief Digital Officer for both Sanoma News and Sanoma Media Finland beginning September 1. Sanoma's media operations in Finland will fall under a common Digital Operations matrix, which guides and coordinates digital business. The matrix will work in close cooperation with the organisation headed by John Martin, the Chief Digital Officer of Sanoma. Marja-Leena Tuomola will also be responsible for the Sanoma Digital Finland business unit of Sanoma News."Sanoma represents the largest concentration of digital media in Finland and is the only genuine multimedia operator. He will be responsible for all common customer relationship functions of Sanoma News. Jukka Kohonen, Vice President, Sales, earlier responsible for the media sales of Sanoma News and Helsingin Sanomat, will concentrate on leading the media sales of Helsingin Sanomat beginning September 1.”The share of Sanoma News in the Finnish media market has been rising during the past few years and is now at 18 per cent. The share of Sanoma News in display advertising on the Internet is 28 per cent. A significant share of growth in the next few years will come through digital business. Prerequisites for growth will be strengthening the market share of our main brands and launching new products and services in close cooperation with the various units of Sanoma News,” Pekka Harju emphasises.These appointments are mirroring the organisation at the Sanoma Group level. Sanoma’s new operating model is characterised by a matrix structure with new corporate functions, Digital Operations and Customer Market Operations.Before transferring to Sanoma News, Marja-Leena Tuomola worked in various positions at Sanoma Corporation, Sanoma Magazines and Sanoma Entertainment during the years 1990–2008. Pekka Harju has previously worked as President of Ilta-Sanomat and Marketing Director at Kärkimedia.
