Finland’s leading magazine publisher, Sanoma Magazines Finland, will make its own contribution to World Design Capital 2012 Helsinki through an innovative new title: Gloria Design. The magazine will combine quality content, premium printing, and beautiful paper to give readers something very special. Sanoma Magazines is one of WDC 2012 Helsinki’s main corporate partners.Gloria Design will appear in March 2012 and will feature articles on fashion, design, living, interiors, food, and antiques, together with profiles on trend-setting personalities. Its content will be closely tied to the themes and goals of World Design Capital 2012 Helsinki, and will aim to promote debate, foster the positive spirit that the design capital year is expected to generate, and highlight Finnish innovation.Minna Juti has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Gloria Design and Riku Koskelo will be the magazine’s AD. Both are from Glorian Koti and the title’s content will be produced in close cooperation with the other magazines in the Gloria family.“Gloria Design will focus on the future and the choices and opportunities that we believe the future will bring,” says Minna Juti. “It will be a lifestyle magazine in true Gloria style, but we also want it to be easily approachable and offer a dynamic forum for discussion and debate. Through the magazine, we want to bring the message of the design capital year to as many readers keen to know more about the world around them as possible, not just those in the design field or already interested in what design can offer.”The magazine will have a unique, stand-out format, thanks to the use of a number of different types of paper from paper producer Stora Enso and speciality printing techniques offered by printer PunaMusta. It will also feature a novel advertising solution, in the shape of Gloria Design & Co., which has been developed in collaboration with design agency, Kokoro & Moi, which is responsible for the graphic design of WDC 2012 Helsinki.“Magazines are all about giving readers new and exciting experiences, and we want to extend this to the physical feel of Gloria Design as well,” continues Minna Juti. “By using different types of paper and different printing techniques, we want to leverage our content as much as possible and create something that is tangibly different. The Gloria Design & Co. concept, for its part, will offer advertisers a new type of forum for engaging readers’ attention through something that has been specifically tailored to all things design.”As one of WDC Helsinki 2012’s main partners, Sanoma Magazines will be extensively involved in many aspects of events throughout the year. The design capital year will be featured in advertising and editorial content in the company’s magazines, and Sanoma Custom Publishing will produce WDC 2012 Helsinki’s official international magazine.“The ultimate goal of Helsinki´s WDC year is to help make better, more user-friendly products and services with the help of design,” says Sanoma Magazines Finland’s Managing Director, Clarisse Berggårdh. “Gloria Design will be our biggest contribution to promoting these new solutions. We want to produce a magazine that is a design product in its own right and also opens up new perspectives and business opportunities that will have a wider relevance for the magazine world generally.”Gloria Design will appear on 20 March 2012 and will have a print run of 70,000.For more information:Editor-in-Chief Minna Juti, Gloria Design, tel. +358 (0)9 120 5287Sanoma Magazines Finland is Finland’s leading magazine publisher, with a portfolio of more than 40 titles read by over 3 million Finns.
