Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, the leading Finnish bookstore chain, organises a campaign called Children's Party on 15–21 February 2010. During the campaign, children's books in good condition can be brought to chain's 61 stores, to be further donated to local charity. Donations are rewarded with discount when purchasing a new book. During the campaign week, a special children's happening will also be organised.

Reading to children has been subject to a lot of research, and it has been found important for the development of language, thought processes, emotions and thirst for knowledge. A good-quality children's book increases imagination, offers objects of identification and conveys information on the surrounding world. Reading also creates a moment of intimacy between the child and his/her parents.

Suomalainen Kirjakauppa wants to encourage reading to children. During the Children's Party new children's book releases are presented, and the books brought in for recycling will be donated to local charity.

The campaign week culminates in a costume party, for which the children can, for example, dress up as a character of their favourite book.

Suomalainen Kirjakauppa supports the learning of children and adolescents in different ways. The chain has co-operated with Save the Children Finland for over 10 years.

Suomalainen Kirjakauppa Ltd. is the leading bookstore chain in Finland. Suomalainen Kirjakauppa is part of Sanoma Trade, a division of the Sanoma Group.
