The overall circulation of the titles published by Sanoma Magazines Finland rose to 2.39 million per issue last year. Finland's largest weekly, Aku Ankka (Donald Duck), recorded its seventh consecutive year of growth, with a 3.4% increase in circulation to 320,514. Women's speciality magazines did particularly well, according to recent figures published by Finnish Audit Bureau of Circulations.

"Circulation is a very good indicator of success in the marketplace," says Anne Koski, Publisher at Sanoma Magazines Finland's Magazines Unit. "And last year's figures show that the quality of our titles worked very much in our favour on a highly competitive market. The growth in circulation reflected not only our commitment to continuously enhancing the quality of our products, but also a very successful sales effort as well."

The women's and family titles published by Sanoma Magazines Finland had a very good year in 2006. The health and wellbeing magazine, Hyvä Terveys, saw an increase of 8.8% to 131,041 copies per issue; the home and interiors title, Glorian Koti, was up 9.2% to 58,203 copies; Sport up 8.4% to 55,098; science magazine Tiede up 5.8% to 56,435 copies; and travel magazine, Matkaopas, up 9% to 39,341 copies.

Positive developments also continued at long-established women's weekly, Me Naiset, which increased its circulation by 3.5% to 131,041 copies per issue. Cosmopolitan increased its circulation by 10.8% to 73,039, and circulation at women's glossy, Gloria, rose 3.8% to 60,946.


Circulation at Meidän Perhe, aimed at families with young children, grew by a very strong 12.4%, to 45,240 copies.

ET-lehti, a title for 50+ readers, retained its strong position, with a circulation of 265,653 (-0.3%), as did family magazine, Kodin Kuvalehti, with a circulation of 182,198 (+0.7%).

The boom in the popularity of interior design and building was reflected in the circulation of Osaava Kodinrakentaja, and its circulation rose 9.5% to 33,194. MikroBitti retained its position as Finland's leading new technology magazine, with a circulation of 102,970, up 1.8%; while circulation at Auto Bild Suomi rose 4.7% to 41,629 copies.

In addition to Aku Ankka, other Disney titles also put in a good performance. The circulation of the Aku Ankka Monthly Extra rose 10.3% to 65,604, and the two girls' titles, W.I.T.C.H (27,819, +7.3%) and lines (10,619, +6.4%), also did well.
