The Finnish Government has appropriated a licence of a new TV channel for SWelcom today. The given licence entitles SWelcom for nationwide broadcasting of its digital pay channel for the next ten years. The new channel will be mainly focusing on movies and TV series.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications received 21 applications for digital broadcasting licences last may. The goal for those who obtained licences now is to start broadcasting on September 2007.

"The new licence enables us to continue offering wide range of experiences – programmes also in the future, states Tapio Kallioja", president of SWelcom division.

In addition to SWelcom the following companies received the licence:


Discovery Communications Europe
Eurosport SA
MTV Oy
MTV Networks Europe/ Nickelodeon International Ltd
The Walt Disney Company Ltd.
