Sanoma is expanding its Mobile Development Centre in Hungary to meet the rapid increase in media usage through smartphones and tablets. The Mobile Development Centre is responsible for the in-house development of mobile apps and media solutions for all Sanoma countries.

Sanoma’s Mobile Development Centre was established three years ago to replicate and reuse mobile assets across the Sanoma Group. Headed by Tamás Szépvölgyi, the Centre established a shared code library to realise scale economies, and has quickly become a centre of excellence for the development of media applications for digital screens. (smartphones, tablets, smart televisions, etc).

For many Sanoma brands, usage from mobile devices has already surpassed traffic coming from traditional computer-based browsers. Sanoma has established itself as the local market leader in mobile services in The Netherlands, Finland and Hungary.

To further meet the rising use of Sanoma brands on smartphones and tablets, the Mobile Centre is now expanding its activities. Next to building new mobile services, the Centre will also provide shared platforms for use across Sanoma. The first service, the Push Notification Server, will allow Sanoma to send messages directly to mobile customers, for example to provide breaking news or location-based offers. The Centre will also develop the mobile solutions for Sanoma’s Internal Ventures. The Internal Ventures are internal start-up companies that are developing innovative media & learning business concepts as a result of of Sanoma’s radical business innovation and venturing program the Accelerator.

The Mobile Development Centre is based in Budapest and funded by Sanoma’s Future Media Team. This Group department is responsible for mapping and developing Sanoma’s transformation towards a successful multi-channel media and learning company.
