Sanoma Corporation, Press Release, 21 December 2012 at 14:00 CET+1

Mikael Nurmi will join Sanoma as Chief Information Officer on 1 April 2013. Nurmi will be directly responsible for all IT functions across Sanoma internationally and report to Sanoma’s CEO Harri-Pekka Kaukonen.

With a background of several years at Nokia both in Finland and in the US and most recently as CIO of the multinational pharmaceutical wholesale and retail company Tamro Group, Nurmi (1967, Finnish) is experienced in building a group wide IT function. Sanoma wants to structure its until now decentralised IT function to support business operations and enable its emerging online capabilities. The company's IT infrastructure should be transformed from a pure supporting tool to a business enabling facility. Nurmi will be responsible for leading this IT transformation.

"I am glad that Mikael will join Sanoma to take care of the very important IT side of our ongoing business transformation," comments Harri-Pekka Kaukonen, Sanoma's CEO. "Sanoma is transforming itself into a strongly focused multi channel consumer and learning media company with a leading presence in selected key markets. Digital and mobile media will have a significantly larger role in our business portfolio. This requires a strong supportive IT infrastructure, not only with regards to connected support systems, but also as a business enabler. With Mikael we have found the capable manager to lead our IT transformation."

Mikael Nurmi says he is enthusiastic to take on his new challenge: "Sanoma is a strong company with an excellent international business portfolio and strong assets. It will be an exciting challenge to build a world class common IT function out of a decentralised IT organisation. My aim is to combine existing strengths, build on this, and enable Sanoma businesses to expand and develop in the right direction."
