The Finnish Cancer Foundation’s Pink Ribbon campaign is celebrating its 10th anniversary this autumn. Finland’s largest women’s weekly, Me Naiset, has been partner in the campaign from the start and has donated over 100,000 euros to research on breast cancer as part of the initiative. This year, donations will come not only from sales of newsstand copies of the magazine, but also via the magazine’s Facebook site.Me Naiset will donate 10 cents from every copy of the magazine sold on newsstands during October to the Pink Ribbon campaign. For the first time, an equivalent donation will also be made for every new Facebook friend the magazine gets this October.“Our readers see our partnership with the Pink Ribbon campaign as very important,” says Me Naiset’s Editor-in-Chief, Johanna Lahti. “We get lots of positive feedback every year, both for our articles on the subject and our donations. This year, we will also be offering our readers a new opportunity to take part in the campaign: everyone who participates will be able to add a campaign button to their Facebook profile and invite their friends to join in.”This year’s Pink Ribbon campaign will be profiled in the magazine’s content during October and at menaiset.fi, where a special Pink Ribbon section will be opened on 1 October. Me Naiset will also take part in the campaign’s main event to be held in Narinkkatori in the centre of Helsinki on 13 October.More than EUR 100,000 donated to cancer research over the last nine yearsMe Naiset became a major sponsor of the Finnish Cancer Foundation’s Pink Ribbon campaign in 2003, when the campaign, which was launched in the US in the 1990s, first arrived in Finland.Since then, Me Naiset has donated over EUR 100,000 from its newsstand sales to the Pink Ribbon Fund. In addition, the magazine has also featured articles on breast cancer and organised a number of events to focus the public’s attention on the campaign and its goals.
