Sanoma Media Trainee is an 8-month training program for students at the end of their studies or recent graduates interested in developing Finland’s largest digital media products and brands.

The next Sanoma Media Trainee program starts on in May 2026.  The roles for 2026 program are AI developer, marketing analyst, data analyst,  client partner, product owner & ETL data engineer. AI Developer, Architecture & New Technologies

You will work across Sanoma in collaboration with experts to develop AI applications and practices for the media industry. This role is consultative in nature and involves close co-operation with experienced AI developers within Sanoma’s Architecture & New Technologies team.

Your responsibilities will include supporting the design, development, and deployment of AI use cases, as well as contributing to the advancement of AI development practices and technology choices.

Marketing Analyst (B2C)

You will join a team responsible for profitable multichannel sales of magazines, leveraging online channels and personalized campaigns. The role emphasizes the use of data for targeting, personalization, and customer journey development through analytics and modeling.

Your responsibilities will include supporting audience planning and developing multi-channel customer journeys using analytics, marketing technology and AI capabilities. You will also participate in data-driven development projects and contribute to improving practices in audience analytics.

Client Partner (B2B)

You will join a team that supports the development of strategic accounts and the building of strong partnerships. This role offers an opportunity to learn how client relationships are managed and how digital solutions drive business growth.

Your responsibilities will include analyzing customer data, identifying business opportunities, and brainstorming solutions together with experienced professionals. In addition, you will participate in cross-team collaboration and assist in coordinating client projects while gaining practical experience in negotiation skills and client communication.

ETL Data Engineer

You will work in Sanoma's Data Products team, transforming raw data into high-quality data products that enable efficient and reliable use of data across Sanoma.

Your responsibilities include building automated data flows, participating in data modeling, and ensuring data quality using Snowflake and Matillion environments. The position offers hands-on experience in data product development and collaboration with analytics and business experts.

 

Data Analyst (B2C)

You will join a team that develops data-driven solutions to enhance customer experience and drive business growth across Sanoma’s media brands.

Your responsibilities will include supporting consumer sales through data and analytics, handling and visualizing data and generating business insights. In addition, you will participate in developing predictive models, reporting, and analyzing A/B tests in collaboration with sales, marketing and product teams.

 

Data Analyst (AI)

You will join a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing editorial and content analytics for news services, focusing on AI-driven data analysis to support editorial teams.

Your responsibilities will include contributing to the development of AI-based analytics and reporting, as well as participating in development projects together with the team and stakeholders. You will assist in analyses and reporting and may also produce independent analyses.

Business Analyst (B2B)

You will join the B2B sales development team, where strategic thinking, data utilization, and hands-on development work come together. This role offers an opportunity to influence business direction and learn how data supports decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include handling, combining, and visualizing data, conducting exploratory analyses and generating business insights. The role also involves forming clear conclusions from data and helping the business understand the meaning behind the numbers.

AI Developer (B2B)

 You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for B2B digital and AI development. You develop AI applications and capabilities to support digital media sales and marketing.

Your responsibilities will include supporting the design, development, and deployment of AI use cases for B2B, as well as contributing to the advancement of AI development practices and technology choices. The focus of your work will be refined based on ongoing projects and your individual skill profile.

Product Owner (B2C)

Our team turns data and marketing technology into customer growth. You’ll learn how to translate business needs into clear product outcomes, refine roadmaps, and help the team deliver incremental value across our customer journeys.

Your responsibilities will include supporting backlog refinement and sprint planning, writing user stories and coordinating with marketers, analysts, designers, and engineers. You will assist all key areas of product development. In addition, you will help track delivery metrics, contribute to experimentation and testing, and ensure that data quality, tagging, privacy, and measurement needs are captured in our solutions.

Q&A:

What is the application process like for this program?

The application process has two interviews, this is the rough schedule:

  • 26th of January - 12th of February 2026: Application period
  • February - March 2026: Interview process 
    • Interview 1: Motivation, company fit, working styles
    • Interview 2: Technical / substance interview with the hiring team
  • Beginning of April 2026: Candidates selected (the latest) & communicated
  • Beginning of May 2026: Program start

Suitable candidates are called to interviews via email. Both interview rounds are eliminative. First interview is in Teams and second interviews will be agreed separately.

What are the language preferences?

Finnish language is not a requirement for all the trainee roles. We will organize the program in English if at least one participant doesn’t speak Finnish. Proficient level of English is mandatory since we have many English speaking experts developing our digital products. 

Finnish language is not required for AI Developer (B2B) & ETL Data Engineer roles in the 2026 trainee program. The language requirements will be listed also in the actual job application form of each role.

What will I be working with?

Each trainee will be assigned a development team in either architecture & new technogies, news & feature media, B2B or B2C unit.

Architecture & new technologies: The shared competence for all Sanoma Media Finland that combines our software architectural development & AI capabilities.

News & feature media: Supporting & developing the daily content delivery of news & feature content for our news brands such as Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat.

B2B unit: Developing & managing our ad business and experience in all of Sanoma's products as well as optimizing related processes.

B2C unit: Development of our commercial products, brands and consumer management.

Additionally each trainee goes through a shared training program and customized onboarding process. 

Work tasks and responsibilities vary according to the trainee position.

What is Sanoma Media Trainee?

Sanoma Media Trainee is an 8-month training program with a fixed monthly salary. During the program, you will do meaningful and diverse work. Your colleagues include the best people in the industry: creative talents, top experts, praised supervisors and exceptionally nice people.

We expect our trainees to have ambition but we also provide support and experience for the beginning of one's career. We are looking for motivated digital industry workers to develop into experts in the media field at Sanoma with real work projects and products that are important to us. Sanoma Media Trainee -program provides a solid foundation for a career in digital product development. It is a full-day, fixed-term employment of 8 months. There is a possibility for continuing to working with Sanoma after the program. We are also open to support a thesis during the trainee period. The trainee program has an agreed fixed duration of 8 months (May-December) and a salary of EUR 3000 per month

We expect applicants to be ready to commit to our organization as an employee as well as be interested in the media industry and product development. Applicants must be able to take the initiative but have good teamwork skills, as all work happens within a team.

Finnish language is considered an advantage but is not a requirement for all the trainee positions. At Sanoma, we can also support the employee's Finnish language development, and we already offer this opportunity to several of our English-speaking employees. The work will be carried out in hybrid-mode, but the applicant must also commit to working at Sanomatalo in Helsinki on a weekly basis and attending some of the ceremonies on-site.
